July 13-August 9
California State Summer School for the Arts
The California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) is a very prestigious and intensive four week summer arts experience held at the California Institute for the Arts in Valencia, California. Each year they seek the most talented high school aged visual, literary, media, and performing artists. Only 520 students are accepted each year including national and international students. Alumni of the program include Zac Efron, James Franco, Alex Hirsch, Pendleton Ward, Craig McCracken, Katharine McPhee, and Kirsten Vangsness, just to name a few.
Instruction is offered in the fields of Animation, Film/Video, Creative Writing, Dance, Music, Theater and the Visual Arts. The talented students who successfully complete the program are eligible to receive 3 units of California State University course credit. CSSSA is held at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in Valencia, California.
California students are charged a comprehensive fee of $2,000 to cover room, board and tuition for the four week 2019 summer session. Over 30 percent of the students receive financial aid from the program itself and PAN-Arts offers scholarships to local students to offset the costs of the program. The 2019 session is July 13-August 9, 2019. Application deadline is February 28, 2019.
PAN Arts provides generous scholarship funds to students in California. No student accepted into the program is denied admission solely on the basis of inability to pay. National and international students pay $6,500 and only the California students are able to apply for PAN-Arts scholarship funding.
